With a script, we make less mistakes during recording.
We also avoid verbal fillers such as "eh, but, uhm," and so on.
Minimizing mistakes during recording makes editing faster too.
In this video, MKBHD shares some great tips for scripting:
Keep the audience in mind
Pitch the language to the audience
Make the content relatable
Find a common thread or a guiding question throughout
(4 min 30 sec)
Use a conversational tone, as if you're talking to a friend.
Keep the pace upbeat, and avoid a slow "lecture style".
Use active, short sentences.
You can even speak in short phrases if it makes sense for your explanation.
We typically speak faster then we type.
We can speak at about 120 words per minute.
Therefore, we can save time by using voice-to-text technology instead of typing.
Open Microsoft Word
In the Home ribbon, select Dictate
Speak into your microphone
The transcription will not be perfect.Â
But you can create a largely accurate script which you can later edit and refine.
