This microsite supports teachers to be better at making videos.
It contains PD material and a collection of bite-sized, hands-on exercises.
Making or editing videos take time. It is a trade-off against time that we can spend doing other things for our pupils.
Therefore, we choose to invest the time if
you want to videos in which students can see you "in person" for the delivery.
there are good visuals you want students to see, but want to change the audio/narration to be exactly the way you want it.
We aim for teachers to
spend the minimal amount of time doing recording
quickly extract the recorded video files
then work on our own laptops thereafter at our own time own target
Most of the PD videos in this microsite are cut-down from the original, full length versions.
Videos allow us to
curate resources
showcase the best performances of colleagues
create visualizations that support knowledge building
We should aim for videos that are "good enough", meaning
the flow and content is based on good pedagogy
the video is self-explanatory to be viewed and digested by students
we can foresee other teachers using it
"How video production affects student engagement" is the article to read.
Focus on one micro-teachable idea per video.
Keep each video short; the recommended 6 mins is for undergraduates!
Aim for <3 mins for primary school pupils.
Be personable and personal
Enthusiastic delivery is better than slow deliberate 'lecture style' talking; viewer can always rewind and replay videos
